Heat Stroke Awareness

August is Heat Stroke Awareness Month as declared by Congress in 2008. The declaration applauds Kendrick Fincher Hydration for Life (KFHfL) for its efforts in promoting the awareness of heat illness and proper hydration since the death of Kendrick in 1995 of this illness. Join KFHfL in the continuing education of our community about the importance of proper hydration and heat illness prevention!

  • Be part of the BeeHydrated Bottle Brigade. The goal is to educate elementary students about heat illness and proper hydration. As part of this program, we encourage access to water by providing a squeeze bottle for use throughout the school day! To join the Brigade, donate for the purchase of water bottles so that all students in Northwest Arkansas have the tool to Be Smart. Bee Hydrated!
  • Be Caught Drinking at Work. Encourage your employees to drink their weight divided by two in fluid ounces each day. Then, join the social media campaign, post your picture in your office/workplace drinking your water:  #becaughtdrinkingH2O (light up FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Make educational materials available in your business, model water as your drink of choice, conduct a heat illness awareness safety meeting. (resources available)
  • Raise awareness. Post a message on your marquee (samples):

    • Be Smart. Beehydrated!!
    • What color is your pee? Stay hydrated!
    • Have you had your water today?
